Full description

Middleton Barn is a wonderful family home, includes a self-contained detached cottage and has been lovingly refurbished and remodelled by the current owners whilst retaining many of the original features such as exposed timber beams and original fireplaces. The property is now offered for sale with the advantage of no forward chain and enjoys an enviable position located within the highly desirable Sea Lane Private Estate and within a short walk of both the beach and the village centre.

In total the property measures 3,880 sqft including the main house, detached annexe, workshop, garage and outbuildings. The main house briefly comprises: a well-proportioned living room with wooden parquet flooring, a fireplace with limestone surround and a log burner, and double doors leading on to the light and airy south-facing conservatory. The impressive 22ft kitchen/breakfast room has been fitted with shaker-style units, a breakfast bar, integrated appliances by Samsung, space for an American style fridge/freezer, corner stove and French doors opening onto the rear garden. The adjacent utility room is well equipped with an array of additional storage and space for appliances. The large dining room has a lovely box bay window overlooking the rear garden and there is also a generous study/5th bedroom on this level. Stairs from the entrance hall rise to the first floor where the generous principal bedroom has a dressing room and en-suite shower room. All three additional bedrooms have built-in storage, including a walk-in wardrobe or storage room in the second bedroom. The well designed and high quality bathrooms are also of particular note.

"The Piggery" is a separate single storey cottage and includes a 17ft sitting room, large fully equipped kitchen/breakfast room, double bedroom, shower room and storage cupboard. This well designed conversion is served by electric underfloor heating, and hot/cold air conditioning units in the sitting room and bedroom. The adjoining outbuildings could offer scope to extend the annexe, subject to the relevant planning consents.

The property is set centrally within its generous 1/3 acre plot, with areas of lawn, patios, paved pathways and colourful flowerbeds surrounding the house and offering lovely views from every window. The ornamental pond is set to the side of the house, whilst to the rear there is a generous oak framed outdoor kitchen-entertaining area and hot tub. Behind this, the large shed provides ample storage for garden furniture and tools, whilst elsewhere a separate studio is insulated and tucked away providing a quiet haven, ideal for hobbies. Within the grounds a private well is linked to an irrigation system providing water for the garden. A gate from the garden gives access to the sports club via the cricket pitch, ideal for those lazy summer afternoons. The driveway provides ample off-road parking and leads to the garage and adjacent workshop.

Charges: We understand there is a charge of £60 p.a. to the Middleton-on-Sea Association.

Why live in Middleton-on-Sea?

The development of modern Middleton began after World War I, when Captain H Rowlands S Coldicott purchased great swathes of farmland with a plan to create both a residential estate and a village community.

This led to the development of the private Sea Lane Estate, which is still a sought-after residential area today thanks to its proximity to the sea and local shops. There are also many pretty thatched properties in the area along with small retirement apartments, bungalows and large family homes that enjoy direct access to the sea while, in neighbouring Felpham, we have the glorious private Summerley Estate.

Middleton-on-Sea is within easy reach of Chichester and Bognor Regis and is a perfect setting for family life. We have two local schools, including the Bishop Tufnell Primary School and the Felpham Community College for secondary students, along with a day nursery for pre-school children. We also have a good range of shops for such a small village, including coffee shops, a Post Office, a family butcher, a general store, newsagent, fish and chip shops, gift shops, a florist and some friendly pubs.

At low tide, Middleton-on-Sea’s sandy beach stretches from Littlehampton to Bognor Regis and is a favourite for local dog walkers and those who enjoy the fresh air and tranquillity of the sea.  Elmer Sands, a mile east of Middleton, is a particular beauty spot, enhanced by the interesting rock islands that were built as a sea defence two decades ago and which have left rock pools and safe areas for swimming and beginner water sports. Over in Felpham you’ll find beachfront cafés, the Arun Leisure Centre, which has a swimming pool and a well equipped gym, and public tennis courts next to the Promenade.
