The black boarded barn in the garden dates from the 18th Century and was used for farming chickens and turkeys. In 1933 it became the site of one of the oldest scouting units in the country. The scout master Charles Brundrett lived in Walnut Tree Farm and his brother Sir Frederick Brundrett, Churchill’s chief scientific officer throughout WW2 lived opposite.
