Why live in 6 Villages?

Each of the Six Villages of Barnham, Eastergate, Westergate, Walberton, Fontwell and Yapton has its own distinct character and friendly, active community. They’re within easy reach of London, excellent beaches and the South Downs National Park, which means people who live here have the best of all worlds.

The smallest is Barnham, which sits at the centre of the Six Villages, and is the best connected thanks to its mainline railway station that serves Bognor Regis, Brighton, Chichester, London Victoria, Portsmouth and Southampton. It’s known for its iconic Grade II Listed windmill, which is now a private residence, and its neighbouring Windmill Shopping Village that has many independent shops, workshops and a tearoom. There’s also a real olde worlde pub, The Murrell Arms, and two local schools – Barnham Primary and St Philip Howard Catholic High School.

Eastergate has a primary school, Eastergate C E Primary School, a general store, Post Office and parish hall that hosts a playgroup, sports clubs, theatrical performances and family events. The sports field doubles up as a community recreation ground and is the home ground for Eastergate Cricket Club and the local stoolball club – a traditional Sussex game that’s similar to cricket.

Westergate has plenty of shops and the Six Villages Sports Centre, which has a gym, sports hall and football and cricket pitches. There are also two schools in the village, the Aldingbourne Primary School and Ormiston Six Villages Academy.

Walberton is the second smallest of the villages and has a very traditional look and feel with a duck pond, a single pub that’s served the locals since the 1800s and a village hall that’s the hub of community life. The local school is Walberton and Binsted C of E Primary School and a selection of village shops are clustered along the main street.

Fontwell is world famous as the home of the Fontwell Racecourse, which holds horseracing fixtures, car rallies and other large functions throughout the year. There are some magnificent houses in the local area and a small parade of shops in the village centre.

Yapton is known as the village that never shuts its doors, which harks back to the days when smugglers would hide their contraband in the nearest house when excise men gave chase. The village has its own primary school, Yapton C of E Primary School, a selection of shops by the village green and the Yapton and Ford Village Hall, which is used to host community events.

If you’d like to buy, sell or let a property in the Six Villages, get in touch with your local team and discover the Henry Adams difference for yourself.
