Cycle challenge raises £3,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice

Six cyclists from Henry Adams’s Development Land & Planning division have raised over £3,000 by pedalling 70 miles around the Isle of Wight.

The team, led by Martin Curry, Partner at Henry Adams, took on the challenge to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, the property consultancy's chosen charity for 2019.

The six cyclists spent more than 6 hours in the saddle having left the ferry port at Fishbourne at 8am and they finished their tour at around 5pm. They had trained hard for the event which saw them gain height of some 4,860 ft throughout the day, including one climb of just under 600ft. The downhills were somewhat easier with a top speed of 39 mph on the descent of the steepest incline down Military Road.

“We all survived with no mechanical breakdowns or mishaps,” said Martin. “It was hard work in some places and very pleasant in others. The Isle of Wight is a beautiful island and we certainly got to see a lot of it!  Our sponsors have been amazing and we couldn’t have done it without their support, thank you to everyone who donated.”

The cyclists were Peter Cleveland, Martin Curry, Chris Locke, Martin Trundle, Vicki Turnbull and Ellie White. Lynn Corbett and Vicki Wright, were in the support car supplying bike spares, water and encouragement.

Alex Burch, Community Fundraising Manager at St Wilfrid’s Hospice said, “We are delighted with the success of the latest fundraising challenge that Henry Adams has achieved. They raised an impressive £3,000 from their recent 70 mile cycle ride which will help to fund outstanding care out in the community and at the hospice.

“£3,000 can pay for 46 hours of care for a patient at home. Our hospice at home service means that families can reduce their own caring duties to their loved one. It means more dignity for patients and more quality time with family when time is of the essence.”
