Gas safety week highlights dangers

“The most important responsibility for any landlord is to ensure that their property is safe for tenants,” says Ian Wiggett, managing director of our lettings division.  “That includes the making sure gas appliances are well maintained and as this week is Gas Safety Week, it’s a timely reminder of the value of regular gas safety checks on all appliances as well as boilers.”

This year Gas Safety Week runs from 19 September to 26 September, raising awareness of gas safety to avoid hazards of gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

There are 23 million homes gas-fuelled homes across the UK according to the Gas Safe Register, which co-ordinates the national campaign of Gas Safety Week in conjunction with support from the gas industry as well as retailers, manufacturers and consumer bodies.

“At Henry Adams we wanted to support the campaign as part of our commitment to our clients and their tenants, and our staff. It’s also important for us to highlight to those of our clients who instruct us on a full management basis, when their regular gas certificates are required.

“It’s equally valuable for everyone, including homeowners, to just take a few minutes to check their carbon monoxide monitors and gas appliances are working correctly and that safety certificates are up to date,” says Ian.

The key aspects to help you stay safe include having all your gas appliances checked every year, using Gas Safe registered engineers and ensuring good ventilation.

If you smell gas, call the gas emergency number on 0800 111 999.
