World Town Planning Day 2022
Great planning improves neighbourhoods and shapes our homes, our workplaces and our towns. It’s a demanding skill to get right which doesn’t always get recognised.
That’s why, on Tuesday 8 November, we’ll be joining planners from 30 countries to celebrate World Town Planning Day.
It’s been marked as a special day for planners since 1949 when it was started by professor Carlos Maria della Paolera in Buenos Aires.
This year, the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) focuses on resilience and on "how planning is key to enabling cities and communities to respond to the shocks and stresses of our time.”
Successful planning is designed to help our future communities to thrive, providing well-designed amenities that centre on local needs and location-specific requirements.
These goals are achieved through collaboration with many different parties to create integrated solutions while reducing the impact on our planet.
Planning permissions range from a straightforward house extension to a multi-million-pound development incorporating new offices, schools, roads, and shops along with much-needed homes that people will be proud to live in.
It’s about leaving a legacy which works in terms of creating a positive impact on the lives of communities, businesses and individuals.
Take a look around to see how planning has influenced where you live and work. The planning profession helps to organise the world around us, through our many wonderful villages, towns and cities.
We invite you to join us in celebrating the very best in the British planning profession this November. Meet our Planning Team here.
